A Special Request

September 24 - Congregational Meeting

Last year – on the first week of November – we were invited to a congregational meeting to give input about growing younger, stronger, and more diverse as we seek to increase our transformational impact through God’s love. That led to a congregational Strategic Team who came back to the elders with the eight recommendations shared one month ago.

The elders request your presence this coming Saturday, September 24, from 9:00 - 11:00 to fully explain the eight recommendations, give you a status update on each, cover them in prayer together, and offer Q & A in an open forum. Doors will open at 8:30, and we will begin right at 9:00.

Our Lesson On Sunday
Humans experience no “waiting” compared to waiting for the birth of a child. This is why Paul uses the birth experience to describe all of creation waiting for the coming of Jesus. He writes, “We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time.” (Romans 8:22)

This week’s message will be based on Romans 8:18 - 25 and Hebrews 11:13-16, and I encourage you to read these verses on Saturday or Sunday before you arrive for worship.

As part of this series and good discipleship practices, I’ve invited everyone to spend time in their Bibles noting verses in each of these categories:

Words to Live By (that lead to abundant life)
Actions to Take (to live as God has called you)
Inspiration to Lean On (when life is pressing down)
Transformation I Desire (in your own life with Christ)

Each week, I’ll be looking for people willing to share a W, A, I, or T verse encountered during the week. To make this work, I’ll need people planning and participating. This week, instead of calling people up, we will take time to roam around the room and hear from those who come prepared. Two have already emailed me to volunteer. Let’s fill the worship room with God’s Word this Sunday as we share insights from God’s Word.

To share on Sunday, here’s the format we’re looking for:
“This week I was reading in _________ (i.e. Romans 8). Verse _____________ (i.e. 8:25) caught my attention as WORDS I need to live by. It says ____________ (But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.) These words remind me of my own impatience when I have to wait. My life would be more abundant and fulfilled if I could learn to love waiting on the Lord.”
